Have you ever found yourself asking God for direction, for a sign, for clarity… while staying completely still? I have. More times than I’d like to admit.
I recently came across a quote by Charaia Rush that stopped me in my tracks:
“God can’t order the steps you don’t take.”
Oof. That one hit deep.
I’ve prayed many prayers begging God to show me what’s next, to light up the whole path ahead like a runway. But truthfully? Sometimes I haven’t even backed out of the driveway. Sometimes I’ve stayed stuck in neutral, paralyzed by fear. Other times, I’ve been tangled in doubt or, let’s be honest, just plain laziness.
But here’s the truth I’m learning: God is a God of movement.
He meets us in the going. He steers us as we move. Not before. Not while we’re parked in fear, overthinking every possible outcome. Not while we’re waiting for perfection or certainty. He guides our steps once we actually start walking.
Trust isn’t just a feeling—it’s motion.
It’s filling out the job application.
It’s hitting “publish” on the blog post you’ve been sitting on.
It’s saying yes when your knees are still shaking.
It’s choosing obedience even when the outcome is still a mystery.
Faith looks like forward.
Even if it’s trembling.
Even if it’s small.
Even if it’s unsure.
If you’re like me, maybe you’ve been waiting for the perfect time. But what if the first step is what unlocks the next? What if obedience is the signal that activates the rest of the plan?
God didn’t promise to choreograph a life we won’t participate in. He promised to order our steps—not our imagination.
So today, I want to gently challenge you (and myself): What’s one step you’ve been avoiding? One nudge from God you’ve ignored because it felt too risky or unclear? What’s one act of trust you can take today—even if it’s just a baby step?
Don’t let fear dress itself up as “waiting on God.”
Sometimes, the truth is… He’s been waiting on you.
Tap in. Move forward. Trust that as you go, He goes with you.
